Interocean Group Review

The Interocean Group is a New Delhi, India-based shipping company that offers a highly diversified range of maritime services. The company was originally established as a shipbroker service back in 1961. Over the past five decades, it has expanded into other areas, including ship agency services, crewing and management operations, consultancy services, logistics and freight forwarding services and oil exploration and drilling services. The company also owns a small fleet of speed launches that are used to ferry crews from ship to shore and back.

Shop Broking Operations

Interocean Shipping Company is a pioneer in the ship broking business in India and continues to be one of the biggest brokers in the region. As a shipbroker, the company helps domestic and international clients charter ships for transporting different kinds of cargo to destinations around the world. Interocean’s ship broking business is organized into a Dry Cargo Chartering division, a Tanker Chartering division and a Sale-Purchase & Demolition Broking service.

Agency Operations

Interocean Group’s ship agency operation, meanwhile, is a fast-growing business for the company. As a shipping agent, the company handles shipments and cargo on behalf of clients around India and overseas. Interocean currently handles close to 2,000 port calls around India on average. The company does not use any sub-agents and, instead, maintains a network of its own offices to handle cargo at all major Indian ports. As a shipping agent, Interocean Shipping Company handles dry cargo such as fertilizers, metals and coal, as well as agricultural cargo such as vegetable oils, grains and molasses. The company also maintains a crew care and spares division that takes care of crew changes, spares delivery and medical emergencies on behalf of clients.

Consultancy and Logistics Services

Like many shipping companies its size, Interocean Shipping Company runs a large maritime consultancy division. The group helps customers in areas such as new shipbuilding, formation of new shipping companies, negotiating supply contracts and voyage calculations. It also conducts services such as hull, machinery and cargo inspections on behalf of ship owners. Interocean recently also launched a logistics division that provides services such as freight forwarding and supply chain management services. The Interocean Group logistics division is one of the fastest growing units of the company, with offices throughout India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
