Numerous companies these days offer car shipping services between the U.S and Dubai. You can have you car shipped either in a container or on a Roll on Roll Off (RoRo)) vessel. With container shipping, your car will be placed either in a 20’ or a 40’ container and transported by sea to Dubai. With RoRo shipping, your vehicle will be physically driven on board a transport ship, secured in a parking garage-like space and transported to Dubai. Typically, RoRo shipping is the less expensive option for shipping a car to Dubai, but your car may be exposed to weather conditions and other potential hazards during transit. Container shipping is the better option if you are transporting an expensive car, or if you plan on shipping additions items, such as household goods, to Dubai.

Documents Required to Export a Car from the U.S.

Anyone seeking to ship a car to Dubai from the United States will be required to provide the following documents to the shipping company:

• Proof of U.S registration. If the vehicle you plan on shipping is brand new, and it is meant for personal use, you will be required to register it first in the U.S. before you can ship it out of the country.
• Proof of vehicle ownership. If you have an outstanding loan against the vehicle, you will need to obtain a letter from your bank authorizing the transfer of the vehicle out of the country.
• A bill of sale.
• Proof of insurance and a valid driver’s license.

You will require all of these documents, as well as an original bill of lading from your shipping company, to clear the car through Dubai customs.

Hot Weather Climate Option

When importing a car to Dubai from the U.S., make sure the car is equipped with a hot weather climate option. Because of the extremely hot temperatures in Dubai, all cars that operate in the country require specially tinted windows and special-purpose radiators and air conditioners. Also, remember that, when you import a car to Dubai for personal use, you will not be allowed to sell it in that country for at least three years. In addition, you can ship a car to Dubai duty-free if you agree to ship it back out of the country at the end of your stay there.
